Knotty Object (2015)

by Paola Antonelli, Erik Demaine, Martin Demaine, and Michelle Millar Fisher

This piece was prepared as the physical manifestation of the first MIT Media Lab Award given to Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby for their work in design.

The handblown glass vessel holds sheets of paper printed with superimposed pages from three of Tony and Fiona's most influential books (Hertzian Tales: Electronic Products, Aesthetic Experience, and Critical Design; Speculative Everything: Design, Fiction, and Social Dreaming; and Design Noir: The Secret Life of Electronic Objects) which were then cut into circles and folded along concentric circular creases.
