Erik Demaine and Martin Demaine's Puzzles:

CSAIL Annual Meeting 2008 Puzzle

In what has become a regular event, Erik Demaine and Martin Demaine give out puzzles each year at our lab's Annual Meeting in June. Here is the 2008 edition.

This puzzle is inspired by "The Brain Power Decathlon" puzzle by Ivan Moscovitch.

Rules

There are three puzzles, one for each icon/logo (CSAIL image logo, MIT logo, and CSAIL text logo). In each puzzle, your goal is to fold the (roughly) triangular puzzle, only along the lines, down to a smaller triangle with four identical icons showing on the front side and the same four icons showing on the back side, as in the following example:

Printing Notes

This puzzle requires printing images on both sides with fairly close alignment. This can require some fiddling with your printer or photocopier.

The puzzle was designed for color printing, but it will work fine on a black-and-white printer.

The PDF file is the best combination of printing quality and small file size. The PostScript file also has ideal printing quality, but the file is larger. In either case, you need a suitable viewer. Alternatively, you can print one of the images. If you can print images scaled to fit, use 150dpi. Otherwise, use 72dpi.
