Erik Demaine and Martin Demaine's Puzzles:

CSAIL Annual Meeting 2023 Puzzle

In what has become a regular event, Erik Demaine and Martin Demaine give out puzzles each year at our lab's Annual Meeting. Here is the 2023 edition, also distributed at the CSAIL + Imagination in Action, in celebration of CSAIL's 20th anniversary and Project Mac / LCS / CSAIL's 60th anniversary.

This puzzle is based on a folding puzzle (Level 1) by Markus Götz (1974–2018).

Puzzle 1 (medium): Fold the 3 × 6 puzzle down to a 2 × 2 square that shows four CSAIL logos on each side, as shown:

Puzzle 2 (easy): Fold the 3 × 6 puzzle down to a 2 × 2 square that shows four MIT logos on each side, where each logo can have any orientation, as shown:

Puzzle 3 (hard): Fold the 3 × 6 puzzle down to a 2 × 2 square that shows four MIT logos on each side, where each logo has the same orientation, as shown:

In all three puzzles, you can fold the puzzle anywhere, but you may not cut it.

Printing Notes

Print the puzzle as large as possible on a piece of paper (single sided), and then cut out along the outer 3 × 6 rectangle.

The PDF file is the best combination of printing quality and small file size. You will need a suitable viewer. Alternatively, you can print one of the images. If you can print images scaled to fit, use 150dpi. Otherwise, use 72dpi.
