Erik Demaine and Martin Demaine's Puzzles:

CSAIL Annual Meeting 2024 Puzzle

In what has become a regular event, Erik Demaine and Martin Demaine give out puzzles each year at our lab's Annual Meeting. Here is the 2024 edition, in celebration of over 10 years of leadership by Daniela Rus as CSAIL Director.

This puzzle is based on a folding puzzle by Tsugumitsu Noji.

[72dpi] [150dpi] [PDF]

Rules

Fold this 5 × 5 puzzle down to a 3 × 3 square, with one side showing a grid of MITs (one color per column) as shown:

Printing Notes

Print the puzzle as large as possible on a piece of paper (single sided), and then cut out the outer 5 × 5 square and along the indicated slit.

The puzzle was designed for color printing, but it will work on a black-and-white printer.

The PDF file is the best combination of printing quality and small file size. You will need a suitable viewer. Alternatively, you can print one of the images. If you can print images scaled to fit, use 150dpi. Otherwise, use 72dpi.
